Dossier

Jennifer and I started the Dossier process a few days ago.  We were warned of the redundant paperwork needed, but the updating of birth certificates and marriage certificates was unexpected.  I was disappointed to say the least that our Notarized Certificates were not sufficient.  I am however happy with how easy it was to get new certificates ordered.  Now it is just a waiting game for the arrival of said paperwork. Our goal is to have the Home Study done and the Dossier submitted by December 1, 2010.  It may seem like a little task, but don’t be fooled it is time consuming and stressful.  Okay maybe only stressful to me.  Please pray for me in this process to say calm, relaxed, and at peace with God’s timing.

Well, thus far we have completed 2 of the 5 Home study visits with Bethany Christian Services (BCS).  The initial interview was just to make sure that we had all of our paperwork in order and the first time that Jennifer and I have sat down with our new Case Manager.

During our meeting we were asked for the details of the desires of gender, age, and number of children.  Jennifer and I have a desire to adopt a child that is younger than 5 years of age.  We both are open to a sibling pair, as long as one of them is younger than five.  Where we differ is that I would really like to have a boy and Jennifer is open to either.  If you have read the “Our Family” tab on the web page you would know that we have 3 wonderful girls, a female Great Dane and a male Great Dane.  I am a bit out numbered and feel like I would really like to have a boy.  The thing is that I am open to whatever God has for me and if that means twin girls, then………..well the Lord will not give me more than I can handle.  So after much deliberation with our Case Manager the decision was, we would like a boy, we are open to siblings, but if two girls seem like a good fit then we are willing to consider it so do not count us out.

The Joint interview went really well. We talked about parenting styles, communication, our children, and finances.  I am very grateful for the parenting class that Jennifer and I took when we first got married.  The class was called, “Growing Kids God’s way.”  It really helped get Jennifer and I thinking about or relationship with one another and how that effects our children.  It also addresses many of the challenges that parents face in training their children.
